Baja Ha Ha October 31, 2016 (San Diego to Cabo San Lucas

Here we go!

Sailing vessel Sea Glass.

Met the Harms on Anduril in San Diego.  They are part of 165 boats in the Baja Ha Ha.

Bahía Tortugas, Baja.  Morning sunrise.  This was our 1st anchorage after leaving
Cam and Noreen from Nori Jo, great crew.
Eds 1st dip in warm water .

Some parts of the journey, boats came very close.

After 2 weeks of sailing, we finally made it to Cabo San Lucas.
 The famous rocks at Cabo.
We chose to anchor out as the marina was full, very hot and $100.00 a night USD.  Watching boats and cruise ships come and go was entertaining.  Also, we could jump in the water at any time.  Pangas (Mexican outboard) would pick us up for $5.00 if you didn’t want to take your dinghy.
The view from our boat.

One of many beautiful sunsets.

Port Albernie to San Diego, August 2016

We left Port Albernie in August, it took us 8 days  motorsailing.  We hired a captain and a friend accompanied us on the journey (Cam Smith from Calgary.  Cam is an experienced fisherman in the Pacific Northwest). I was the cook as I didn’t feel comfortable taking night watch.    We had a brief fueling stop in San Francisco then headed out.

After a long hiatus from blogging, I am starting up again.

Broughtons humor.
Seafood and shellfish are abundant in the Pacific Northwest.  I enjoyed making sushi, ceviche, crab cake, salmon cakes and fish n chips.
Exploring the anchorages was breathtaking.  This was our hike on Calvert Island, BC from the anchorage on inside passage to the Pacific side of the island.
Mom seal just gave birth at Ocean Falls.  She is looking for handouts from the salmon cleaning.
Jackie and Robin came for a visit on the long weekend in May.  Robin enjoying fishing for salmon.
Jackie barely tall enough at the helm.
 Very serious Robin.
Jackie joking around with damiana.  Mexicali’s liquor added to margaritas.
The trip to Ocean Falls, BC.

Newborn seal nursing.  (Ocean Falls, BC)
During our time in the Pacific Northwest our good friend would come sailing, love having him on board.
Our vehicle was a wagon for grocery shopping in the remote marinas.
We couldn’t get enough dungeons crab.
Another wonderful marina.  Hiking was limited.
Our grand daughter loves visiting and loves, loves fishing.
Loved this wonderful town stuck back I n time.
Ed having a stroll on the desolate beach.  After 3 years sailing the northwest, we decided to head south to warmer climates.

We enjoyed quiet anchorages up in the Broughtons, BC
Took a picture of this eagle, One Fine Day happened to be in the background.  Bella Coola, BC.
Love the remote marinas.  Echo Bay, BC.
 Dolphins entertainment.
One of many waterfalls.
Getting off the boat to stunning views.
Misty anchorages.
We visited Ucluelet, Vancouver Island, BC
We did a little walk on the Trans Canada Trail.
Secluded bays on the west coast of the island.
Beautiful view of the open Pacific.
A little boat decoration.
More walking on the trails outside Ucluelet.
Watching  bald eagle go in for a catch.
Opa and Sammy in the dinghy, Victoria,BC
The reflections are absolutely beautiful.  The bays are very calm,
pleasant anchorages.
The rugged west coast.
We didn’t cover much of the Pacific Northwest in the 3 years of sailing.
Bald eagle fishing for dinner.  We have seen hundreds over the years, graceful.
We sure miss Robin and Jim Roberts.  They taught us so much about sailing in the early years.  Can’t wait to see them again.
Drinking in the beauty.
Sammy and Opa exploring Victoria Harbour.
