Ohau, Hawaii

Ed and I had a serious change of plans.  We did want to return to French Polynesia to reunite with our friends Dazzler in Fiji; circumstances changed the plan.  Ed flew back to French Polynesia with experienced crew , who are somehow related (Harms) and seasoned sailors.  They sailed to Ohau, Hawaii;  the  plan was to get One Fine Day back to Canada.  This is our time in Hawaii for the winter of 2019 -2020.  We’re not sure what the future plan will be.
Ko Olina, Hawaii have four beautiful resorts as well as the marina.  It also has four lagoons that are protected from the ocean swells.
This google map shows the location.
One of many beautiful views from the resorts.
The lagoon closest to the marina.  The lagoons are well protected from the surf, it’s a great place for the children.

Beautiful red head cardinals looking for handouts.
Week days are quiet on the beaches.  The closer to Christmas is when it gets busy.
Ed and I rented a car for the winter.  This way we can tour the island on our own.

Plenty of beaches on the west side that were deserted.

I love the lush mountains.

I believe this is a type of banyan tree, they are enormous.
Appy’s on the back deck.

Tour boats are out with snorkeling tourists.

This is the entrance to Ko Olina.

Sunset in the marina.

While in Hawaii we visited the historic Pearl Harbour.

We also visited the Arizona Memorial.
We toured the North Shore, it is famous in the surfing world.

Ed and I would bring our umbrella lawn chairs And a picnic.  We would spend the day on the beach watching the surfers.
The towering mountains on our return from the north shore.
The surf changes every day.
The beaches away from Waikiki are very quiet.
The view of the entrance to Ko Olina with the golf course in the background.

There are plenty of areas to stop to take in the breath taking views.
We ran into Dan from Kinny Po Po.  Dan we met in French Polynesia.  He is a solo sailor, very brave.

Our son Matt spent Christmas with us.
Jenn, DUSTIN and William arrived for New Years.

They couldn’t wait to get to the beach.  Calgary, AB is very cold at the end of December.

Happy Hour at the Monkey Pod.

William taking control of Opas nav station.

We would take walks for exercise, the view from the pathway.

Some days the surf was up very high.
William having goofy time while waiting for our street tacos.
There are plenty of food trucks around the island.

Catching the sunset.

The double rainbow was beautiful.

Opa and William going for a swim.

Mom, dad and William having fun in the sand.

Mom and William relaxing.

All finished swimming.  Time to go for dinner.
It was sad to say goodbye to Jen, Dustin and William.  Shortly after our grand daughter Sierra and her boyfriend Cole arrived for two weeks.
We went our for a day sail and to do some fishing.  Sadly, not one bite.  Sierra enjoyed taking over the helm.

We took them touring the island.  Here a Honolulu Police officer was scooting everyone off the rocks.    The surf is quite deadly here.

Sierra and Cole love to explore.
