San Juanico to Los Barriles

We left Loreto and took a side trip to Scorpion Bay, San Juanico, on the Pacific.  Dustin and Debbie live here.  It is known for the longest surfing wave,  Many gringos make this their home.

We spotted this dog on the roof of a Mini Super.

Mariachi anyone!

The units parked on the bluff above the surf.

We chose this spot.

Road pop for the beach drive.

The beaches were endless, they stretched for 30 miles.

We encountered 4 Pit Bulls while driving on the beach; they didn't seem too friendly.  The dogs chased us for at least a mile.

Once away from the dogs, we stopped to play on the beach; no one for miles.

Someone had a dream!

A flock of Pelicans take flight as we approach.

Amazing ponds, in the middle of the desert.

The main road to San Juanice was washed out.  This was the alternate route.  Who said a 43 foot bus can't go off road.

Local wildlife.

The caravan slowly crossing the creek.

This intersection was named Diego Dave's corned.  Dave missed the turn to San Juanico, he went straight.  It took him a few hours to find us.  The guy was still happy.

Ed, Terry and Dave having a serious discussion.

Showing off the generator for the boys.

We arrived at CD Constitucion late afternoon on Jan 21st.  We met the other units who didn't make the trip to San Juanico.  This is where Santa saved a strays life,  his name is Buddy.  He had a broken leg and mange.  God Bless Bruce and Sue.

Hance went for a ride in this dune buggy,

The Brits had a problem with their 5th wheel.  Here we sit in La Paz.

Ed decided to help; Dave got to sit this one out,  he fixed the last two break downs.

Finally, making our way to Las Barriles.  One more mountain range to drive through.

Finally, warm weather.

Loreto, Baja California

Beautiful scenery as we drove Southeast to Loreto

A very small RV Park behind a private home.  Mike from B52 called this cramping.

A banana tree behind our bus..

Now those are drinks, Margaritas and pina coladas..

Terry and Ricci.

Mike, Terry and Dave couldn't keep their eyes off a model.

She was posing around the Mission.

An old tree on one of our walks.

A prize winning cock.  This one is worth up to $1,000.00 USD.

Ed and Dave went fishing.  Yellow Tail Tuna.

A picture with the captain Tiko.

Early morning beer.

What a feast we had with the fish.  Ed made sashimi and Dave did a wicked BBQ.

It was a wonderful stay in Loreto.

The Trek to Mulege, Playa Santaspak on the Bahia de Concepcion

We left the ranch and drove to the town of Guerrero Negro, on the Pacific Ocean side of the Baja.

After leaving Guerrero Negro, we traveled east towards Mulege.  The caravan stopped in San Ignacio to visit a Mission.

Many photo ops in this beautiful town.

At the town square a woman is making empenadas de carne.  A pastry filled with seasoned beef and deep fried.

I wait patiently for my order to be cooked.

A blue heron perched on a log in the lagoon.

This is a conversation piece.  It is beef, what it is used for, I'm not sure. It was hanging in the grocery store in town.

Another mountain range to cross before reaching Santa Rosalia on the Sea of Cortez.

The terrain changes from cactus to rugged hills.

We finally arrived at Santaspak on the Bahia de Concepcion; 12 miles south of Mulege.

A full moon appears from behind the mountain.

Sunrise on the Bahia.

We met some wonderful people from Washington.  Many laughs were had the following weeks,

A lonely pelican perched on the rocks.

Beautiful reflections looking out to the Bahia de Concepcion.

Ed and I drove into Mulege.  We stopped for fish tacos and a cervesa (beer).  Taco stands are everywhere in Mexico.

Love the sign.

Ed, Dave and Terry went fishing.  They caught trigger fish; they have teeth like the piranha.

Dave made ceveche, man it was good.  Ed made sashimi, which was equally as tasty.

We spent 3 days at Santaspak.  The last night was a pot luck at our site.

Dustin and Debbie having quiet time on the beach.

Jan 17th we headed south for Loretto, a fishing town on the Sea of Cortez.
