Fakarava Atoll, Tuamotus

May 22 , Ed and I left Nuka Hiva for the Tuomodu  Atolls.
We thought we could drop anchor on the outside of this atoll.  It was too deep and we were worried about the anchor getting fouled on the coral.

One more overnight.
May 27th we arrived at Fakarava.  It was a long trek, as we thought we would stop on the way.
We had to wait a few hours for slack tide.  It can get pretty bumpy entering the pass if the tide is going out.
The pass was uneventful; now to the anchorage for a much needed rest.
Boaters were more than helpful suggesting where a good place was  to anchor.
The color of water we were waiting for.
After resting, we went to town to explore.

The water was crystal clear and different shades of blue.
Running into fellow cruisers happens quite often.  Helen and Ian from Night Tide, Ernie on Patience.   We all sailed from Banderas Bay in March. This was the WiFi go to cafe.  They had the best panini.
One of the resorts on Fakarava.  Quite popular with the young folks.
This nurse shark swam right up to me.  They are harmless.

The water was shallow, clear and bathtub warm, no need to drag the dinghy up on the beach.

Ernie heading back to his boat after spending the day ashore.

When the cafe was closed, we would buy an espresso and get our WiFi at the yacht club.   Very nice people.  We rented bikes one day and toured the Atoll.

It’s hard not to take photos of this beautiful place.

Seeing these huts in person instead of magazines and television gives you a different perspective.

Google pic of Fakarava.

Ed having a beer with a local.

What a place to clear your mind.

The anchorage would get crowded at times
One Fine Day on the left at sunset.

We visited a pearl farm while at Fakarava.  This was my pearl.

Some days the lagoon was like glass.
We went to shore every day.

Ernie getting his daily exercise.

Local children loved playing on the dinghies at the cafe.  A fellow sailor took them for a ride, they had so much fun.
The owner of the cafe, his wife was busy serving.
Ernie giving Ed technical support.

Ed and I sailed to the South end of Fakarava for a change.  We spend  two days there.

Rot Oa a was a beautiful anchorage.  Little to do.
The owners son playing at the water’s edge.
Having Hinano, One Fine Day in the background.
It’s difficult to tell the difference between the water and sky.
 Dead calm.
Local ladies taking hula lessons; I could watch them for hours.
