Huahine

July 14th we arrived at Huahine at 8:30 am.  Dan and Jilly came over for anchor beer.  That is what we do after the anchor is set, no matter how long the sail.
That evening, we went to the Yacht Club.  Happy Dan.

Ed and Dan always having fun.
Dan teaching Ed on the hang loose symbols.

Jilly always finds the fun.

The locals welcomed us with open arms.
Love to see the rainbows from the water.

Dazzler at sunset.
Time for a walk about in the town.  It was a cute town, quite a few local vendors, selling coconut milk to vanilla.

This is a view off the bridge to the bay.
Many boats anchored.  Some places were tricky.  We did have a catamaran drag in the middle of the night, they came very close to hitting us.  Ed had to wake them up with the air horn.

An anchor for shore art.
I finally bought a baguette bag.
The local children having fun jumping off the pier and playing in the water.
There were quite a few chartered catamarans.
More of lovely rainbows after a squall.

Ed and I were fortunate to have front row seats watching the outrigger race.

This was our entertainment for the afternoon.

We were anchored next to the race route, this race is a serious event for Heiva.

Like I said, a great front row seat.

Dan and Jilly left, it was sad to say goodbye.  They were making their way to Fiji, then on to New Zealand.  We plan to store our boat at Raiatea for cyclone season.  We rented bikes with fellow boaters to tour the island.  We had an enjoyable afternoon.

We stopped at beaches on the Pacific side.

Touring the ancient ruins.
Quite a history on these islands.  The locals are very pleasant.

This is a view of the bay looking out to the Pacific.

The local children playing with the blue eye eels.

I was happy to be ten feet above them.
Our final sunset at Huahine.

Tahiti

The morning of June 20th, we saw Tahiti.  It’s always exciting finishing a leg.
New adventures are about to begin.
After resting, we toured around town.  They roll up the sidewalks early.

Love the beautiful murals.

No lack of artistic talent.

Ed trying to translate.

Entertainment at the marina.
We would frequent the food trucks.  They would set up nightly at 5:00pm.  It was a short walk from the marina.
Entertainment at the marina quite frequently.

Local Puddle Jumpers prior to the Moorea Regatta.
It was a fun race until the wind died.

The fleet, Moorea was a few hours from Papeete.

The buffet at the rendezvous.  I don’t eat goat, the cat under my table got my portion.

The anchorages were calm and beautiful.

There were hundreds of boats at the rendezvous.

A panorama view of the race.
Back in Papeete.  I think this fellow does day tours.

This is a view of the water behind our boats.

Statues all over the parks.

Canada Day in Papeete, Tahiti.

Hiva is about to start.  It’s a huge competition of dance and outrigger racing.

We went to the opening ceremonies.  Amazing costumes and dance.
After the ceremony, Dan, Dan, Michelle, Ed and I went for pizza.  We enjoyed their company while in Papeete.

Restaurants are busy in the evenings.
We headed back to Moorea before sailing to Huahine.  Time is running out for us, we have to put the boat away, as our three month visa is closing.

Sitting on the deck and admiring the landscape was addicting.
